In an aspect, the technology of navigation systems can be broadly divided into two categories, namely single node and multi-node systems.  The single node uses some type of sensors, typically GPS, INS, magnetic compass, barometer, etc., in one system. The multi-node solutions typically used in body motion capture are composed of many sensor nodes.

Each node has some type of sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, etc. The data fusion techniques are applied to produce more precise navigation information for the system or to put together signals coming from different sources.
